
Update of Luxembourg National Identification Numbers in the Trade and Companies Register (RCS)
The Luxembourg Business Registers (LBR) has recently announced significant changes regarding the update of Luxembourg national identification numbers for individuals registered in the Trade and Companies Register (RCS). These changes aim to enhance the quality and accuracy of the information contained in the RCS, in compliance with current legal requirements.
Free Update Period Until May 31, 2025
Until May 31, 2025, the specific RCS filing procedure for updating Luxembourg national identification numbers will remain free of charge. This transitional period provides affected entities with the opportunity to comply with the new requirements without incurring additional costs.
Applicable Fees from June 1, 2025
Starting June 1, 2025, updating national identification numbers will be subject to fees. Entities that have not completed this update before this date will be required to pay the standard fees applicable to non-statutory filings.
Access Restrictions on Filings from October 1, 2025
If national identification numbers are not updated by September 30, 2025, the LBR reserves the right to restrict access to filing procedures for the affected entities. This measure will take effect from October 1, 2025, and will remain in place until the required numbers are provided to the LBR and the situation is regularized.
Procedure for Updating National Identification Numbers
To update the Luxembourg national identification number of an individual registered in the RCS, the following steps must be followed:
1. Individuals who already have a Luxembourg national identification number:

- Provide the existing number in the dedicated field of the RCS requisition form, along with standard identification details (first names, last name, date, and place of birth).
- No additional supporting documents are required.
2. Individuals who do not have a Luxembourg national identification number:

- Request the creation of a number by providing the following details:
- First names
- Last name
- Date, place, and country of birth
- Gender
- Nationality
- Permanent residential address
- Supporting documents, such as a valid identification document and proof of residence, must be attached to the request.

Consequences of Missing the Deadlines
Failure to meet the update deadlines may result in restrictions on the ability of entities to file documents with the RCS. It is therefore crucial for all affected entities to take the necessary steps to comply with the new requirements before the specified deadlines.
